Why Naturopathic Medicine?
After many years in the healthcare field, Dr. Knighton* became disheartened with the stories of patients' struggles with the healthcare system. She found that many of the chronic patients in the hospital came back more frequently with worsening health conditions and eventually expired. It was frustrating to see the “band-aid” approach often used in conventional medicine to alleviate the symptoms, did not actually address the ROOT cause for the condition.
During this period, Dr. Knighton’s* son was diagnosed with a regressive form of autism. He was born healthy, met all of his developmental milestones, was talking and walking until after a well-baby check and several immunizations he stopped talking and started developing neurological deficits and many of the symptoms associated with autism. In the quest to help her son adapt to his world without medications, she discovered that the most effective treatments were the simplest ones: diet, removing toxins from the diet and environment, supporting the body’s ability to detox and teaching her son to learn to adapt to the stimuli that appeared to cause him the most discomfort and sensory overload.
It was through this journey that Dr. Knighton* discovered Naturopathic medicine. With the help of Dr. Louis Esquivel and many other naturopathic therapies and behavioral and developmental rehabilitation, her son has no neurological deficits. Now, 26 years old, he functions at the same level of his peers, recently graduated from high-school, and has completed an Associate degree at St. Phillips College in San Antonio! Dr. Knighton* doesn't take credit for her son's accomplishments; it took a village to get her son on his current path, the grace of God and team of angels to help him and his family on his journey.
Dr. Knighton* believes in taking the simplest approach when possible, researching and finding the root cause of illness, working as a team with other caregivers and family members and utilizing a combination of Naturopathic medicine, Acupuncture and Homeopathy to restore the health of her clients.
